Bike Theft Prevention

Bicycle theft continues to be a crime of opportunity right across the Central Okanagan.  More than a 1,000 bikes a year are reported stolen and RCMP believes the actual number is much higher.

Very few stolen bicycles are ever reported by owners and recovered by police.   Unfortunately many bicycle owners don’t record serial numbers or have a detailed description/photo to help identify their bike in the event it is stolen.

Help Protect Your Investment

1)      Register your bike for FREE with the 529 Garage Bike Registry (online or mobile)

2)      Get a 529 Garage decal from Kelowna RCMP to put on your bike to discourage thieves

3)      Lock your bike whenever you’re not riding

What is Project 529?

RCMP in the Central Okanagan and police across the province are partnering with a company called Project 529 to combat bike theft through improved education, prevention and enforcement.  By registering your bicycle with the free Project 529 Garage, you have the best chance of having it returned if it is stolen and recovered.

Watch this short video on how easy it is to register and protect your bicycle!
