Managing the daily affairs of the Regional District involves staff and management working closely with the Regional Board and community partners to coordinate the delivery of more than 90 different functions and services.

Decisions are made by the Regional Board, which is comprised of elected (Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West electoral areas) and appointed representatives from the Central Okanagan (Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland).
As a regional form of local government, the Regional District operates under the Local Government Act, which lays out strict regulations about how local governments can conduct their business. Procedures about voting, bylaws, even certain types of public meetings are clearly defined.
