There are other Boards made up of appointments from the Regional District Board that oversee the operations of a variety of interests.
Regional Hospital District
Comprised of the same members as the Regional District Board, they are responsible for decisions and funding of capital expenditures for the hospital. The Regional Hospital District funds a 40% share of hospital facility construction and funding for the purchase of major equipment. Hospital District meetings are held just prior to the regular meeting of the Regional Board, as necessary. For more information on the Interior Health Authority you can visit its website at www.interiorhealth.ca.
Sterile Insect Release Program (SIR)
The SIR program is a partnership of four regional districts providing a service directed at area wide management of codling moth infestation in both orchard and urban areas. The service promotes sustainable agricultural practices while protecting air, water and food quality through delivery of area wide enforcement and sterile insect release resulting in a reduction in the need for toxic organophosphate pesticides. The Regional District of Central Okanagan has appointed representation on the Sterile Insect Release program Board. For more information visit the SIR website at www.oksir.org.
Okanagan Basin Water Board (OBWB)
Working with other local governments and regional districts to preserve water quality in our larger valley lakes is the primary objective of the Okanagan Basin Water Board. The OBWB is located at the office of the Regional District of Central Okanagan (1450 KLO Road, Kelowna) and provides funding for water quality and conservation initiatives, waste water treatment facilities and aquatic weed management. The Regional District appoints three members to the Basin Water Board each year. For more information visit the website www.obwb.ca.
Okanagan Regional Library Board
The Regional District of Central Okanagan assists this Board by including the costs for their annual budget in the Regional District's budget. The Regional District requisitions the funds for their library budget from the Province and participating local governments. For more information on local libraries, visit www.orl.bc.ca.
