Love them, License them, Leash them!

The Regional District enforces a zero tolerance policy on all unlicensed dogs.

All dogs in the Central Okanagan must be licensed (Responsible Dog Ownership Bylaw No. 1343) and must wear their valid license tag.  It’s the first principle of responsible dog ownership in our region.

Your dog license may be your dog’s ticket home in the unfortunate event that it gets away.  It’s a form of insurance for your pet.  Our dog control staff can quickly and easily help reunite you with your dog, in many cases saving you from having to make a trip to the dog pound.

In addition, license fees contribute to the services provided by Dog Control staff across the Regional District of Central Okanagan.  Other benefits for licensing your dog

With the help of over 30 participating businesses, this card provides licensed dog owners with discounts/rewards on services and can over the course of a year, give them something back over and above the cost of their annual license!

License Fees and Permanent License tag

An annual license costs $20 for a dog that’s been spayed or neutered (another principle of responsible dog ownership) or $60 if it hasn’t been fixed and is available at any of the agents listed below,.

Not having a license will result in a fine of $300 (zero tolerance for unlicensed dogs), plus the cost of purchasing a license.

The Regional District offers one dog license tag that does not have to be replaced annually.  This Permanent License tag gives you the convenience of renewing your dog license each year online. Registration allows you to pay your annual Permanent Licence renewal fee online -no need to leave home, line up to renew a licence and replace an annual dog tag!  (please select the Permanent Dog Licence menu option and have your account number and access code found on your renewal notice).

Information for New Resident Dog Owners

Welcome to the Central Okanagan.  If you’ve moved from another jurisdiction in the province, bring your current, valid dog licence tag from your former B.C. municipality to either the RDCO Dog Pound (890 Weddell Place) or RDCO office (1450 KLO Road) and we’ll exchange it for free with a new licence in the Central Okanagan valid for the remainder of the calendar year and will register your dog here!  It’s one way we welcome you and your dog to our area!
