Dog Licensing
Love them, Licence them, Leash them!
The Regional District enforces a zero tolerance policy on all unlicensed dogs.
All dogs in the Central Okanagan must be licensed (Dog Regulation and Impounding Bylaw No. 366) and must wear their valid licence tag. It’s the first principle of responsible dog ownership in our region.
Your dog licence is your dog’s ticket home in the unfortunate event that it gets away. It’s a form of insurance for your pet. Our dog control staff can quickly and easily help reunite you with your dog, in many cases saving you from having to make a trip to the dog pound.
In addition, licence fees contribute to the services provided by Dog Control staff across the Regional District of Central Okanagan. Other benefits for licensing your dog
An annual licence costs $20 for a dog that’s been spayed or neutered (another principle of responsible dog ownership) or $60 if it hasn’t been fixed. Not having a licence could result in a fine of $100, plus the cost of purchasing a licence.
Information for New Resident Dog Owners
Welcome to the Central Okanagan. If you’ve moved from another jurisdiction in the province, bring your current, valid dog licence tag from your former B.C. municipality to either the RDCO Dog Pound (890 Weddell Place) or RDCO office (1450 KLO Road) and we’ll exchange it for a new licence in the Central Okanagan and register your dog here! It’s one way we welcome you and your dog to our area!
An annual licence will be issued with payment of appropriate fees by any of the agents listed below, if you are renewing for a previously licensed dog, have acquired a new dog, or are a new resident to the area. Benefits of a dog licence
