Building Bylaws
Ensuring public safety and compliance with a number of building
regulations is the main thrust of the Regional District of Central
Okanagan Building Bylaw No. 835. This Bylaw sets policy for
administering the regulations of the BC Building Code including
local regulations, permits and building inspections.
The Building Bylaw is enforced on a continual basis. It applies
to the Central Okanagan East and Central Okanagan West Electoral
Areas of the Regional District.

Building permits are required for construction
and renovations of any structure, including sewer systems, fences
and outbuildings.
Inspections are required to approve various
states of construction.
Property owners should also be aware of the importance of
Interface fire protection and, where possible, consider the use of
building products that can reduce the potential threat of an

To Obtain a Building Permit
Building permits are available at the Inspections Section
counter at the Regional District Office at 1450 KLO Road, Kelowna
between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, Monday to Friday, excluding holidays.
Building permits processing time may vary depending on the time of
year. Fees for building permits range according to the size and
type of structure and can be paid by cash, cheque or Interact at
the cashier's counter.

Inspection Checklist

Inspector, in accordance with the Building Bylaw. For a detailed

To Call for an Inspection
Inspections are required at various stages in
the construction process to ensure that construction conforms to
the minimum standards of the BC Building Code. Please call 24 hours
in advance for your inspection. Inspection requests received on the
same day will only be done if time permits. Otherwise the
inspection request will be carried over to the next scheduled
inspection day.

Inspections for the Central Okanagan West Electoral
Areaare scheduled for Tuesday & Thursday of each
week.
Inspections for theCentral Okanagan East
Electoral Area are scheduled for Wednesday each week.
Inspections are carried out between 08:00 am
to 4:00 pm on each scheduled inspection day.
As Building Inspectors are unable to provide a
specific inspection time, the work to be inspected must be ready at
any time during the morning. Construction can only proceed once you
have received inspection approval. When more than one re-inspection
is required, a re-inspection fee of $75.00 must be paid prior to
the re-inspection.
