All residents on municipal curbside garbage collection
will receive yard waste pick
up every two weeks from
March through November only. The
bi-weekly yard waste
collection replaces the
seasonal curbside pick ups.
Please note,
yard waste is no longer
allowed in the garbage.
(Yard waste collection weeks
are denoted by the leaf icon
outlined in the
Living Greener Calendar)
How do I use this new
service?
With your new carts the yard
waste program is easy to
use. Simply place the
following items inside your
wheeled yard waste cart
(green lid):
-
grass,
leaves,
pine needles and pine cones,
-
garden plants, corn and
tomato stalks,
-
branches and prunings up to
5 centimetres (2 inches) in
diameter and less than one
metre (3 feet) in length
Do
not put plastic bags or
other containers into this
cart.
When your yard waste cart is
full, wheel it to the curb
by 7:00 am on your regular
collection day. Be sure all
materials fit within the
cart with the lid closed.
Yard waste is collected
every second week from March
through November on those
weeks that are not scheduled
for picking up your
recycling.
To determine your yard waste
collection weeks, please
refer to the maps below or
look in the Living Greener
Calendar for your area to
find out if you are an A or
B collection week. Once you
have determined your
A or B collection week, consult the
Calendar and look for the
leaf icon for your
collection week.
The program is for
Residential Yard Waste Only (no commercial or
agricultural waste) and is
only applicable for
residents on municipal or
regional garbage collection
service. Different trucks
will collect garbage and
yard waste.
Please note, yard
waste is no longer allowed
in the garbage. Waste that
does not comply will be left
behind.
For residents that have an
excess of yard waste, it can
be dropped off year round at
either the Westside or
Glenmore landfill in the
yard waste pile free of
charge (up to 250 kg).
Alternately, private
collection companies will
collect unlimited amounts of
yard waste for a fee. (Click
