Master Composter Volunteer Program
If you would like to set a positive environmental example in your community, like
meeting and talking with people and are interested in learning about composting,
waterwise gardening, and recycling, then the Master Composter program may be just
right for you.
Testimonials from Master Composters
The Master Composter Volunteer program provides a variety of opportunities for you
to be involved in local waste reduction initiatives. You can volunteer to host a
Go Natural Garden Party, help out with special events such as the annual Hazardous
Waste Round Up or Composter Sale, or assist with numerous educational presentations.
The opportunities to talk to and meet new people are fun and varied. We interview
and train new volunteers annually as fully certified Master Composter/Recyclers
and local environmental ambassadors.
Master Composter Program Application Form
The program is based on similar models across the country, but was introduced to
the Central Okanagan in 2007 and received great support. When training courses
are offered, they are provided at no cost to participants and include 35 hours of
in-class instruction, plus a series of field trips to local waste related facilities.
Volunteers also learn about home composting, verimcomposting and residential recycling.
Upon successful completion, graduates act as an important community resource promoting
the four R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover!
This is our second year for the program. If you would like more information, please
contact our the Regional District Waste Reduction Office at 250-469-6250, or email
us at recycle@cord.bc.ca
