Want to test your knowledge of the local environment in a fun, exciting way?  The Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind Challenge is a contest for students in the Central Okanagan organized by the EECO Heroes (Environmental Educators of the Central Okanagan).

Students in grades 4 through 12 participate compete in a jeopardy-style contest that challenges their knowledge of local environmental issues!  Teams that sign up in January have until April to practice and learn the study package information!

You'll be asked questions on a variety of environmental topics, such as air quality, endangered species, plants, forestry, ponds, garbage and recycling, saving water, fish, and bodies of water.   But don't worry!  Before the contest, you'll be given a study package (see links below) with all the information you'll need to answer the questions and go home a winner!

Local playoffs for elementary and middle school teams heat up on April 17, 2010 as students vie for fabulous prizes including ice cream parties for the entire school and cash prizes, trendy vests and hats.  Winning teams and all high school teams go on to play in the BC Playoffs on May 7, 2010 for a chance to win $1,000 for their school.  First place high school teams will receive a $1,000 bursary per participant towards post secondary education.

Competition Categories:  Elementary School (grades 4-6),  Middle School (grades 7-9), High School (grades 10 - 12).

If you'd like to compete in the Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind, tell your teacher about it.  Or you can email enviro@kelowna.ca for more information.   Once your team is registered, you'll receive a study package containing environmental information in seven different topic areas.  All questions during the Terasen Gas Environmental Mind Grind Competition are based on the information found in the study packages (linked below).
