What We Do
Everything you ever wanted to know about garbage and recycling is available from
the Regional Waste Reduction Office. As a program of the City of Kelowna, Regional
District and District's of Peachland, Lake Country and West
Kelowna, the Waste Reduction
Office implements programs to help reduce garbage going to local landfills. Reducing
waste conserves natural resources, energy and space in local landfills, protects
the environment and saves future tax dollars.
Staff are available to provide information and assistance during regular office
hours, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm Monday to Friday. Fun and informative presentations for
groups or schools are available on a wide range of topics.

Greening Your Business Workshop Presentations
“Green” was the subject on the minds of over a hundred local business
owners. They invested some of their time by attending a free “Greening Your
Business” workshop organized by the Regional District Waste Reduction Office and
the City of Kelowna.
They heard several presentations from experts in the field and received practical
tips that they can use to help operate a more environmentally-conscious business.
Here are links to each of the presentations made during the workshop: Electronics
Recycling, Energy -
Gas, Energy -
PowerSense, Transportation,
Waste Reduction,
Water and
Pesticides and the presentation on Sustainability
for Businesses by keynote speaker Mark Holland.
Check Online for Waste Collection Day
The Regional District online maps now provide a feature that allows residents
receiving curbside garbage and recycling collection to check their regular pickup
day. Follow this link to the
RDCO Web Maps and follow the directions.
Province-wide Electronics Recycling Program!
A province-wide end of life electronics recycling program is now underway.
You can drop off computers, monitors, printers, fax machines and televisions at
designated Encorp Return-It collection sites (two in the Central Okanagan), without
charge and be assured they will be responsibly recycled. For more information
visit the Encorp Return-It website:

Website Promotes Reuse!
Do you have items under $100 that you’d like to get rid of, which
could still be used? Are you looking for a bike for a growing kid, a kitchen
table for a college student, or some free shrubs to improve your yard? The
latest tool for helping folks get unwanted stuff to people who need it can be found
online at
www.okanagan.reuses.com.
The Okanagan Reuses website, sponsored by the Regional Districts of Central Okanagan
and Okanagan-Similkameen, and the Recycling Council of British Columbia, serves
residents in the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys.
