Regional Growth Strategy
- Your Home, Your Future
A regional growth strategy is a strategic plan approved by the Regional Board to provide guidance to local government Official Community Plans and bylaws in regards to growth management issues.
The regional approach to growth management provides consistency and coordination between different jurisdictions in the development of policy to create social, economic and environmentally healthy communities that make efficient use of land and resources.
The Regional District of Central Okanagan adopted its first regional growth strategy in 2000 in response to concerns about the impacts of rapid population growth and development.
It is now being updated
and will be revised to
address identified regional
issues. Information,

One of the fastest growing areas in the province, the Central Okanagan is home to over 160,000 residents and is expected to grow to 225,000 by the year 2025. The Regional District of Central Okanagan is made up of towns and cities as well as areas that are not part of a municipality.
The development of Regional plans and strategies involves the efforts of the City of Kelowna, the District of Lake Country, the District of Peachland, the District of West Kelowna, the Regional District of Central Okanagan, and several Provincial Ministries. Many organizations such as the Irrigation Districts, the School District, the Interior Health Region, First Nations, Ministry of Transportation, and the Land Commission contribute their valuable expertise.
A review of the regional growth strategy is recommended every 5 years. This initial review of the regional growth strategy is currently been initiated and is expected to be completed late in 2012.
