"Your Community Your Parks"
Since the 1990s Westside has been among the fastest growing communities in B.C.
From 1996 to 2003 the population has risen over 16.5%. With that growth, the Westside
Parks and Recreation Department works hard to ensure that the Westside Recreation
Master Plan is implemented. A developing system of parks and recreation facilities
is an essential part of the broad community appeal found on the Westside. More specifically,
the Westside Parks budget has allocated funding for neighborhood parks under the
"Your Community Your Parks and Play Space Partners Program".
With the help of volunteers, neighborhood groups and committees, minor and adult
sport clubs/organizations, service clubs, local Westside businesses and School District
#23, we are able to construct new park and recreation amenities or upgrade existing
ones.
It is through the efforts of several volunteers and volunteer organizations working
along with community partners, businesses and staff that have developed some top-notch
facilities such as the Constable Neil Bruce (CNB) Soccer Fields, Kinsmen Ball Diamonds,
Gellatly Waterfront Trails, Avondale, Jonagold, Shetler, and Sunview Neighborhood
Parks as well as Royal
LePage Place in the Mt. Boucherie
recreation complex.
If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer we would
be happy to have you join the team!
