Robert Lake
Features:
Robert Lake is a Conservation park and
because we are protecting the sensitive ecosystem, there is no
access or trails leading to the lake.
There is an information kiosk and small
viewing area around it at the end of Curtis Road.
Robert Lake is the best example of an
alkali playa or salt flat in the Central Okanagan. The dry and salty
mud flats left after the evaporation of water is ideal habitat for
waterbirds and shorebirds. Of particular interest is the American
Avocet, an endangered species. For more information about the Avocet
or birding activities please see the Central Okanagan Naturalists Club website.
Birdwatching is a favorite activity
from the kiosk area with binoculars and birding scopes. The time of
the year will dictate what species may be migrating through, nesting
or enjoying the Okanagan sun.
Please contain your activity to the kiosk and viewing area so you do
not disturb the birds and other wildlife.General Information:
Robert Lake Regional Park was acquired
in partnership with the Central Okanagan Parks and Wildlife Trust in
1998 through private donations. Thanks also to the Central Okanagan
Naturalists Club, TD Canada Trust Friends of the Environment
Foundation and the Lunam Family for their generous contributions to
the purchase of the park.
Most of the two hectares that makes up
Robert Lake Regional Park is the lake itself. The surrounding road
is on private property and the owners ask that park visitors respect
their privacy and keep activities to the kiosk area.
Dogs, overnight camping, open fires and smoking are not permitted.
The kiosk and viewing area is open during daylight hours year round.
Directions:
Curtis Road from Valley Road North.
