Kopje Regional Park is 3.2 hectares of lakefront property. A gem found nestled in Lake Country, the park is a great place to visit and offers a glimpse of the past through the artifacts in the historical museum.

The annual Gibson Heritage House Strawberry Tea event takes place each June. Keep an eye on the Calendar of Events for the date and enjoy a guided tour, refreshments, musical entertainment and crafts.

Regional Parks Interpretive Programs are available by donation for school and community groups who'd like to learn about our local cultural history.

History:

George Gibson came to the Okanagan from England in 1906. He rode his horse along the same road now called Carrs Landing Road and made the decision to buy the land and settle there.

The lakefront property that Gibson purchased has been a park since 1987 and the house Gibson built in 1912 is now a museum. When you visit the house, you will discover what life was like on an orchard homestead in the early 1900s when the fruit growing industry was just taking off.

The stately beach home was rebuilt from photographs and with help from Gibson's daughter Joan Shaw and grandchildren Rosemary Carter and Mick Wentworth. The house has been entirely restored and refurnished by community donation and grants. It includes local historical information and artifacts from the 1910 1930 era.

General Information:

Dogs, overnight camping, open fires and smoking are not permitted. The park is open in spring, summer, and fall during daylight hours. The parking area is closed during the winter.

The Gibson Heritage House is open June, July and August on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays between noon and 4 pm. Other times of the year it is open by appointment only. Kopje Regional Park can be booked for groups by calling the Parks Department.

To get there, drive on Highway 97 North through Winfield and turn left on Oceola Road. Turn right on Carrs Landing Road and follow to Kopje Regional Park.
