Westside Parks & Recreation Commission
With the incorporation of the Westside
District Municipality in December 2007, the Regional Board released the volunteers
and disbanded this advisory body.
Since it was established in 2001 under
Bylaw No. 915, the Westside Parks and Recreation Commission reported directly
to the Regional Board and provided direction on all parks and recreation services
in the Westside Electoral Area setting the policies and approving the programming
and service standards for parks, recreation facilities for the area including facilities
such as the Westside Seniors Centre, Johnson-Bentley Aquatic Centre, Westside Youth
Centre, Mount Boucherie complex and Westside Recreation services.
The Commission was also responsible
for any surveys or studies and new or expanded parks, recreation services and facilities
throughout the Electoral Area.
The Westside Parks and Recreation
Commission was made up of up to nine residents of the area (appointed by the Regional
Board for two-year terms) extending from Peachland to slightly north of the Okanagan
Lake Floating Bridge. While all members of the Commission had an interest
in the betterment and wellness of the Westside community, they must also have experience,
skills, education or a strong interest in a specific aspect of parks and recreation.
The Regional Board appoints Commission members for two-year terms.
Commission meetings were open to
the public and were usually held once a month. The following links are provided
for historical reference for the
agenda and minutes
of meetings.
