Dog Control - What We Do

The Regional District of Central Okanagan Bylaw Enforcement Department provides dog control services for the entire Regional District. This area includes the City of Kelowna, Districts of West Kelowna, Peachland and Lake Country, as well as the unincorporated Central Okanagan East and West Electoral Areas of the Regional District that include Ellison, Joe Rich, North Westside, Wilsons Landing, Traders Cove, Trepanier Valley and Brent Road.

The Regional District also provides contract Pound services and assistance as requested for the Westbank First Nation reserve lands only.  Services are NOT provided for the Okanagan Indian Band IR # 7 lands in the Lake Country area.

The Dog Regulation and Impounding Bylaw No. 366 is enforced on both a complaint and proactive basis. This means that complaints will be reacted to on a priority basis, however dogs at large will be impounded and other violations can be acted upon when they are observed by the Bylaw Enforcement Officers. Please note that the Bylaw is provided for convenience only and should not be considered the legal or official document. Please consult the Regional District for the legal bylaw.

All dogs in the Central Okanagan must be licensed each calendar year, and must wear their dog tags for identification. Click here for licence fee information and sales agencies.

The Dog Pound is located at 890 Weddell Place, Kelowna. Click here for link to Dog Pound page.

The SPCA Animal Shelter is located at 3785 Casorso Road (near Benvoulin Road in Kelowna) and you can phone 250-861-7722.
